What are the opening hours of the libraries?

Mon – Fri: 8:00AM – 6:30PM

Saturday: 8:30AM – 5:00PM

Closed on Sunday & Public Holidays

Where there is insecurity the library closing hours may vary slightly.

How do I become a member of the library?

To become a member of the library, one is required to fill out an application form and present it at the information desk in the library. There are various categories of memberships including adult and junior memberships, institutional memberships and others. Please refer to the library’s Service Delivery Charter for more information.

How do I borrow a book from the library?

To borrow a book from the library a fee of 20 shillings is charged per book for 14 days for adult members. For junior members, the fee is 5 shillings per book for 14 days. One is required to have: KNLS Membership Card

How do I find material in the library?

By using the library’s Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Information materials can be searched using: Title, Author, Subject, Call number, or ISBN Keywords, otherwise seek assistance from the information/issue desk.

How many books can I borrow?

Individual members are allowed to borrow up to 2 books at a time.

For how many days can I stay with a book that I have borrowed?

The initial loan period for books is 2 weeks, however, you can request the library to  renew this period by a further 2 weeks either through a phone call, an email or visiting the library’s information/issue desk.

What if I overstay with a borrowed item?

A fine of 10 shillings per book per day will be charged for every library material returned after the due date.

What should I do if I have lost my library membership card?

Loss of membership cards should be reported immediately to the librarian who will take appropriate measures.

Does the library have computers that can be used by library patrons?

Yes, all our libraries have computer labs where library patrons can make use of the computers, however, users of computing resources owned by knls must comply with specific policies and guidelines governing their use, and act responsibly while using shared computing and network resources. Users must seek guidance from the librarian in accessing these resources.

Can I bring my own text book and use it in the library?

It is possible to bring your own book and read it from the library. However, if the book has been borrowed from another institution and the validity period has lapsed, do not bring it else it will be confiscated and sent to the institution of origin.

Can I bring my own laptop and use it in the library?

Yes, library users are welcome to bring in their own laptop and work/study in the Library however they are required to check in and check out their devices at the security desk. The libraries Acceptable use and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies apply.

Does the library provide WiFi services?

Wireless Internet access is available during regular library service hours at all our library branches. The Library’s Acceptable Use Policy applies when using Wi-Fi.

Does the library have employment opportunities?

Opportunities will always be advertised on knls website as and when they arise. Please be checking here regularly for available opportunities.

Does knls offer internship or attachment opportunities?
