Children Reading Tent sponsored by KeMU Library

The Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) Library in conjunction with the Kenya National Library Services (knls), Meru Branch held a Children’s Reading Tent (CRT). KeMU sponsored the event as part of their Community Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Children reading tent activity held at KeMU GroundsThe purpose of the CRT was to develop, inculcate, encourage, and sustain a desire, habit and culture for lifelong reading in children. The event was held on 24th May 2013 at KeMU Main campus compound from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Guided by the theme “Reading is knowing” “Kusoma ni Kujua”, the event brought together 198 pupils all drawn from 8 primary schools from Meru Municipality.

Book giveaway – Book Time Project 2013

Book Time book giveaway was an event that was organized with an aim of strengthening the reading culture among children and promote learning among children below the age of 9 years. The project involved giving a total of 3,600 children books donated by Pearson Foundation through Book Aid International (BAI) for sharing with their family members and friends. Each child received 2 books, 2 book marks and a book bag. A total of 7200 books were given out to the school pupils.

BASIC ICT SKILLS AT knls – MURANG’A BRANCH

Kenya National Library Service (knls) in partnership with Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) established ten e-resource centres with the aim of providing e-resources to rural areas and provide access of information to all.

Knls – Murang’a branch was a beneficiary of this partnership and received 10 computers, furniture, and satellite dish inclusive of free unlimited internet access. With the e-resource centres in place, knls-Murang’a launched the basic ICT skills training in April 2013. The main objective is to equip the community the library serves with IT skills as they embrace the digital era. In addition achieve the mission of enabling access of information for knowledge and transformation of livelihoods to all.

A VISIT TO BURUBURU POLICE CHILD PROTECTION UNIT

Thirst for knowledge and information is a drive that is felt in every sphere of life. People seek information and knowledge for various reasons.  It has the power to build and accomplish dreams; it transforms life from rugs to riches.  Unfortunately, some are less privileged in its access.

Knls Buruburu has initiated a programme in liaison with Buruburu Police Child Protection Unit.  The programme aims in providing a taste of knowledge and a sense of belonging to the children under such protection. The protection unit serves as a rescue centre for the abandoned and neglected children, street children and those mistreated at home.
